Nanjng Museum

6/30

Post is out of chronological order because I had trouble uploading pictures through my VPN.

Went to Nanjing museum. It was intense to see the brutality of the Japanese. I will warn you the pictures can be disturbing, look at your own risk. I would recommend it to anyone visiting this part of China though. For those not familiar with the event. The Japanese indvaded China and captured Nanjing the former capital of China. On December 13th, 1937, the "Rape of Nanjing" started. For 6 weeks they raped and pillaged the village. "Kill all, loot all, rape all." 300,000 people where killed and maybe more since many bodies were never found. It works out to one every 12 seconds. To put it in perspective it takes about 12 seconds for a raundrop to fall to the ground. Some of those killed where not Chinese but foreigners attempting to provide humanitarian care.

Moved

Moved into my actual apartment. Good size for one person and a little bigger then some of the others my coworkers have. I pretty simple; kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. Lots of storage space, have an enclosed porch that my washer is on, clothes are hung here to dry. I post some pictures when I am settled in.

First day of Summer camp and pretty much my first time full time teaching. Class seemed to go well. Lost one girl because she is really young. Was kinda scared going in but as my friend Russ says, "They still can't kill me and eat me." Looking forward to a great time. Next month I get the little kids for summer camp. For now it is time to pack everything up again and get ready to move to my apartment tomorrow.

Adjusting to life in Nanjing. Traffic is crazy, and I get stared at a lot. Making some friends and getting ready to start teaching. Substitute taught a class of little ones today and had a lot of fun. I think Friday's BBQ finally convinced my brain that I am in China and not China town and that I have really left the states for a year. Seeing teachers getting ready to leave is what did it. I will try and upload all I can Internet is a little spotty at the hotel, hopefully it will be better once I move into my apartment. I found that Yahoo video chat is working better than Skype, if you do not have my Yahoo it is the same as my email but with ymail.com. I know I am going to have a blast.
